Kim’s Cross
Kim Kardashian has acquired the Attallah Cross worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, after the pendant went on sale at Sotheby’s London.
A representative for Kardashian successfully outbid others vying for the famous amethyst cross designed as a one-off item by court jewelers Garrard in the 1920s.
She has acquired the Cross pendant for more than double its pre-auction estimate, £163,800 (about $200,000).
The Amethyst Cross is a stunning piece of jewelry crafted from 18K white gold and set with a eleven large amethyst gemstones. The cross is encrusted with diamonds and features a unique design that is sure to make a statement.
Garrard Crown Jewelers
In 1843, Queen Victoria appointed Garrard as the first ever official Crown Jewelers, leading to the production of numerous pieces of silverware and jewelery for the Royal Family, as well as the upkeep of the Crown Jewels.
The Princess of Wales had a close relationship with the jeweler and even selected her engagement ring from the designer in 1981.
Diana’s cross
Princess Diana famously wore the pendant to a charity gala in October 1987. She had a particular fondness for this statement piece, said Sotheby’s.
The cross was only ever worn by Diana and, following her death, hasn’t been seen in public until now.
Sotheby London’s head of jewelry Kristian Spofforth said in a statement, “This is a bold piece of jewelry by its size, color and style which cannot fail to make a vibrant statement, whether it be of faith or fashion — or indeed both. We are delighted that this piece has found a new lease of life within the hands of another globally famous name.”
According to People magazine, Kardashian is honored to have purchased such an important piece of jewelry, adding it to her collection of pieces worn by celebrities who have inspired her.
